Bikes on Board

TARC has an array of services designed to meet the ever-changing needs of our community.

Bikes on Board

TARC’s Bikes-On-Board program is a great way to get around the entire Louisville area. Just learn the Rules of the Rack, load your bike on a bus, and you’ll be on your way. All TARC buses are bike rack-equipped (except electric buses).

Loading Your Bike

  1. Remove any loose items that could fall off the bike (tire pump, water bottle, etc.).
  2. Load (and unload) your bike from curbside, never from the traffic lane.
  3. Let the driver know that you want to load your bike.
  4. Squeeze the handle and pull down to lower the rack.
  5. Lift your bike onto the rack. Use the rack position nearest the bus, if available, handlebars towards the left side of the bus.
  6. Pull the support arm out and up over the top of your bike’s front tire – not the frame or fender.

Unloading Your Bike

Tell the driver that you are going to unload your bike as you exit the front of the bus. Pull the support arm off the front tire and lift the bike off the rack.

IMPORTANT: Please return the rack to the upright position, and make sure it is locked in place. This is very important. The driver cannot see the rack without a bike on it.

For safety reasons, the driver is not able to get off the bus and assist you. Bikes are mounted at your own risk. TARC is not responsible for the theft or damage of your bike while on the bus rack.

TARC’s bike racks will accommodate most bicycles, with the exception of tandems, recumbents, mopeds, scooters and tricycles. Each bike rack can carry three (3) bikes.

Enjoy the Ride!
