For the first two weeks of July, users of the TARC mobile app can ride on route 4 free of charge.
Why is it only for route 4?
TARC is conducting a two week pilot to obtain feedback from TARC riders, operators of vehicles and any other interested members of the general public. Therefore, the pilot is restricted to one route, before an agency wide implementation is undertaken.
Is it paid after 2 weeks?
After two weeks, the mobile payment feature in the app will be disabled.
What if the ticket is not getting validated?
In order for the ticket to be electronically validated, the rider’s mobile phone will need to have Bluetooth enabled and the TARC mobile app will ask for the user’s permission to turn it on. However, in case of a hardware problem with the mobile phone or any other connectivity issues, the passenger can show the ticket activation page that contains the QR code and the time of expiry of the ticket to the operator of the vehicle.
Can I reuse the tickets?
Tickets are single-use only and will expire within 2 hours of activation.
Bluetooth is necessary for the free ticket purchase. WiFi or mobile internet will be essential to plan trips and purchase tickets. During the journey, WiFi or mobile internet will help TARC collect analytics about ridership and therefore desirable, but not essential.
What if the device doesn’t beep?
The operator of the vehicle will ask to see proof of a ticket in which case the rider can show the ticket activation page containing the animation and the time of expiry of the ticket.
What is the range of the Bluetooth?
The range is around 2-4 feet.
Do I have to touch the device to validate?
The rider need only hold the phone within 2 feet of the device. Tapping the phone on the device is not necessary and not recommended.
Do I need to click on Activate ticket for validation?
Tickets need to be activated in order for them to be validated.
What happens if there are no tickets?
The device on the vehicle will display a red light and several short beeps which is an indication to the operator of the vehicle that the rider does not have a ticket.
What should be done if the red light glows?
The operator of the vehicle will ask to see proof of a ticket in which case the rider can show the ticket activation page containing the QR Code and the time of expiry of the ticket.
What if all lights are off?
The device is in idle state and is not connecting with any rider’s mobile phone.
Can I use my existing login on tarc?
Yes. You can use your existing trip planner(website) login to use in the Application.
