TARC to Provide Fare-Free Rides on General Election Day to Help Connect Voters with Polling Locations Across Jefferson County
October 27, 2026LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 26, 2026) – The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) will once again provide fare-free rides on General Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, helping Jefferson County voters get to the polls safely, conveniently, and at no cost.
All TARC fixed-route services and TARC3 paratransit services will operate fare-free throughout Election Day (a service TARC has provided for every primary and general election since 2020), allowing voters across the community to travel to and from the closest stop to their polling locations without paying a fare. TARC will operate its normal weekday schedule on all routes. Jefferson County Clerk and Chair of the Board of Elections David Yates said the partnership helps ensure transportation is not a barrier to voting.
“Voting is one of the most important rights we have as citizens, and no one should miss the opportunity to cast a ballot because they lack transportation,” said Yates. “We are grateful to TARC for continuing to provide free rides on Election Day and helping make the voting process more accessible for Jefferson County residents.”
Yates also encouraged voters to prepare before heading to the polls.
“This year’s ballot is lengthy and includes a constitutional amendment, so voters should take time to review their sample ballot before Election Day,” Yates said. “Having a plan before you vote can save time at the polls and help ensure you’re ready to make informed decisions on every race and question appearing on the ballot.”
