LOUISVILLE, KY. (March 04, 2020) —The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a new coronavirus. This virus was first detected in late 2019 in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, and this coronavirus has now been identified in many locations internationally, including in the United States and Canada.

The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). Symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

TARC is in constant communications with the Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, the Department of Emergency Management, APTA (American Public Transportation Association), the FTA, and the CDC to continue monitoring the situation with COVID-19.

TARC staff is keeping a close eye on COVID-19 as it develops. We are working alongside local and national officials and are following the guidelines for preparedness and methods of response outlined by those organizations,” said Lorri Lee, TARC Director of Safety and Security

All fixed-route buses and TARC3 vehicles, are being cleaned and sanitized daily in accordance with CDC guidelines. TARC also is encouraging both riders and drivers to take important steps to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19, including frequent hand washing, covering coughs, and staying home if feeling sick.

TARC continues to prioritize the safety and health of our staff and riders, and remains dedicated to minimizing any impact on service operations.
