TARC to provide fare-free rides on May 19 to connect voters to polling locations across Jefferson County
May 14, 2026LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 14, 2026) — The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) will once again provide fare-free rides on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, May 19, continuing a longstanding community initiative designed to help voters access the polls safely, conveniently, and at no cost.
All TARC fixed-route services and TARC3 paratransit services will operate fare-free throughout Election Day, allowing residents across the service area to travel to the closest stop near their polling locations and other destinations without paying a fare.
TARC will operate normal weekday service on all routes during the election.
Jefferson County Clerk and Chair of the Board of Elections David Yates praised the partnership and emphasized the importance of reducing barriers to voting.
“TARC’s continued commitment to providing fare-free transportation on Election Day helps make voting more accessible for thousands of Jefferson County residents,” said Yates. “Strong community partnerships are essential to ensuring every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process, and we appreciate TARC’s ongoing support of voter access and civic engagement.”
Election Day Information
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. Any voter in line by 6 p.m. will be permitted to vote.
Voters can find their polling location by visiting LouisvilleVotes.org and selecting “Voter Info” followed by “Where Do I Vote?” Voters may also contact the Election Center at (502) 574-6100 for assistance.
Voter ID Requirements
Kentucky voters are required to verify their identity when voting in person. Accepted identification must include the voter’s name and photograph and may be issued by:
- The United States government or Commonwealth of Kentucky
- The U.S. Department of Defense or a branch of the uniformed services
- The Merchant Marines or Kentucky National Guard
- A public or private college, university, or postgraduate institution located within the United States
- Any Kentucky government entity
Voters unable to present one of the approved photo IDs may still cast a ballot by completing a sworn “Voter Affirmation Form” and providing an alternative qualifying document, including:
- A Social Security card
- An approved Kentucky county-issued ID
- A card displaying the voter’s name and photograph
- A Kentucky SNAP, EBT, or food assistance card
- A credit or debit card displaying the voter’s name
