TARC and the Louisville Free Public Library announce winners of 23rd annual Design-a-Bus contest

April 26, 2023

Louisville, Ky. (April 26, 2023) — TARC, in partnership with the Louisville Free Public Library, today announced the 12 student winners of the 23rd annual Design-a-Bus contest, “Every Journey, a Story.”

The 12 winners will have their artwork displayed on a TARC bus that will operate throughout Greater Louisville for the next year. In addition to the 12-winning works of art, the bus is decorated with characters and themes from Richard Scarry’s collection of books.

The bus will debut in the Zoeller Pump Company Pegasus Parade, on Sunday, April 30.

“This contest brings out so much creativity and excitement every year,” said Carrie Butler, Executive Director of TARC. “We’re happy to grow our partnership with the Louisville Free Public Library, share art from our community, and highlight the importance of providing access to knowledge and resources for the people we serve.”

Team members from both TARC and the Louisville Free Public Library voted on over 110 illustrations submitted by students from kindergarten to high school seniors from schools throughout the TARC service area.

“This partnership is a great opportunity to engage local youth in an entertaining and educational art experience, and use their artwork to highlight the importance of storytelling, self-expression, and lifelong learning. The Louisville Free Public Library is excited to be part of this innovative program,” said Louisville Free Public Library Director Lee Burchfield.
