TARC On-Demand Jeffersontown Zone

This spring, TARC is introducing a 6-month on-demand pilot service called TARC On-Demand. The service is for short local trips and uses smaller vehicles that customers can hail from their smartphones when they need to.

In Jeffersontown zone includes an area ranging from Plainview to the Bluegrass Commerce Park, to downtown Jeffersontown. In addition, students attending Galen College of Nursing will be able to use the service to connect from Route #31 Shelbyville Road.

Within the zone, customers will have the freedom to move just by using an app on their phones. Customers can go from any point to any other point within the zone, or for a reduced price they can take TARC On-Demand to a TARC stop within the zone to connect to regular TARC bus service and go anywhere else in the region.

Use the TARC On-Demand app — available for free in the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store — to plan your trip, select your choice of travel, and pay from your mobile device. Your ride-share vehicle will be marked with TARC On-Demand branding to guarantee a safe, convenient, and affordable ride to your destination.

What is TARC On-Demand?

What is the fare?

For $5 a customer may travel to and from anywhere within the zone.

For only $2 a customer may travel from anywhere within the zone to any bus stop within the zone (free April 1-30!).

When paying with cash, the exact fare is required; driver cannot make change

Where in Jeffersontown will TARC On-Demand service?

Can I use TARC On-Demand to connect to TARC fixed-route service?

What are the hours of service?

Hours of service areas will be:

  • Weekdays: 5:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Sunday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

What do I use to plan my trip?

Use the TARC On-Demand app—available in your app store—to plan your trip, select your choice of travel, and pay from your mobile device.

The TARC On-Demand app is available for free in the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store.

How will I recognize my TARC On-Demand vehicle?

Your ride-share vehicle will be marked with TARC On-Demand branding to guarantee a safe, convenient, and affordable ride to your destination.

How long will the driver wait for me?

Your driver will wait 30 seconds.

What is the policy for car seats or boosters for children?

Children’s car seats or boosters must be provided by passengers.

How do I book in advance?

Choose a date or time in advance. Bookings can be made on-demand up to 7 days in advance. You have the option to book for multiple days with the same pick-up and drop-off schedule.

What if I don’t have a smartphone?

You can book a ride on the booking website (book.tarc.rideco.com) or by calling the call center at (502) 214-7505.

Do all TARC On-Demand drivers have to have a background check

All TARC On-Demand drivers must pass a background check and complete appropriate training.

How do I know my ride is coming?

You will be notified when you’re next to be picked up, and you can track your ride in real-time in the TARC On-Demand app and booking site.

Can customers using wheelchairs use TARC On-Demand?

During the pilot period, the Jeffersontown TARC On-Demand zone will have four regular vehicles assigned to it and one of the vehicles will be wheelchair-accessible, with a weight limit up to 400 pounds for chair and rider combined. Customers who would like to request the wheelchair-accessible vehicle will be able to do so within the app while booking or they can do so online (book.tarc.rideco.com) or by calling the TARC On-Demand Call Center at (502) 214-7505. TARC3 service will also continue to be available in New Albany during the pilot period without any adjustments.

Did you lose or find something on TARC On-Demand? Contact us immediately to report it. Call our Customer Service line at (502) 214-7505 . Be sure to provide the following information when calling customer service: 

  • Your name and best telephone number to reach you. 
  • Your location in the van. 
  • A detailed description of the item.
