#Rideralert: TARC Service Update for Monday, January 13
January 5, 20251/12/2025
ATTENTION: Winter Weather Alert
TARC Service Update for Monday, January 13
TARC will return to regularly scheduled service tomorrow (Monday, January 13).
While TARC will be operating a normal weekday scheduled for all routes, delays are still possible due to lingering effects from the snow and ice storms of the last week. TARC especially urges customers to use caution and allow for extra time to get to the bus stop as many sidewalks may still not be completely cleared.
TARC3 (TARC’s ADA paratransit service) service is expected to operate as normal tomorrow.
Service update for Thursday, January 9 – Sunday, January 12
Due to continued challenging conditions created by the historic snow and ice received earlier this week, TARC will continue with reduced levels for the rest of the week through Sunday, January 12. TARC’s priorities each day will focus on ensuring service for core routes and then continue to add service as it is feasible on most local routes. Several TARC routes will not be in service Thursday through Sunday.
TARC’s first priority will be to ensure service on six major routes (the #4 Fourth Street, #10 Dixie Rapid, #15 Market Street, #21 Chestnut Street, #23 Broadway, and #28 Preston Highway) that carry large numbers of TARC passengers, serve major employers, and operate on corridors that are more likely to be clear.
There will be no service Thursday through Sunday on the following TARC routes: #2 Second Street, #12 Twelfth Street, #22 Twenty-Second Street, #27 Hill Street, #43 Portland-Poplar Level Road, #52 Medical Center Circulator, and scheduled shopper service.
TARC expects to have service on all other routes, including Indiana routes, but at reduced service levels. Riders should continue to expect delays and plan accordingly.
TARC3 (TARC’s ADA paratransit service) continues having difficulty accessing many side streets. TARC3 customers are encouraged to delay any TARC3 trips unless they are absolutely necessary, delays should be expected. TARC3 customers can call the Reservations Line at 502.560.0333 to reschedule their trips.
In determining service levels, TARC is taking into account the remaining hazardous road conditions and reduced ridership as the region continues to recover from last weekend’s weather event. Safety for passengers and employees remains TARC’s number one priority. TARC is also watching the additional threat of significant snow fall for this Friday afternoon and is focused on ensuring the safe continued delivery of transit service during that storm.
TARC plans a Sunday afternoon update regarding plans for service on Monday, January 13.

Riders on fixed route buses can receive the most up-to-date information by calling our Customer Care Line Monday through Saturday at (502) 585-1234, subscribing to text or email notifications, or following TARC on Facebook or X.
For passengers who use TARC3 paratransit service, please book extra travel time, especially if you have an appointment. Call your destination to verify they are open and appointments are on time. Please cancel unwanted trips as soon as you decide not to travel. That helps TARC3 schedule vehicles effectively.
During inclement weather, TARC works to keep as much service on the road as possible while also ensuring the safety of our passengers and employees on the roads. We implement winter weather detours when snow and ice can cause travel hazards. The decision to activate winter weather detours or reduce service could be made at any time.
When temperatures drop to 35 degrees or lower in the winter (with or without wind chill), and the Louisville Coalition for the Homeless and the Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana activate Operation White Flag, TARC waves fare for those individuals who need transportation to one of the participating shelters. The passenger should alert the driver when boarding and can ride to the stop nearest a participating shelter.
